Wildlife...
Watch
a bear stroll
the beach through the silvery mist as you
drink your morning tea, or an eagle
perch outside your window. From the safety
and unobtrusive comfort of your boat, let
the wildlife come to you! Spring
is the ideal time for countless flocks of
migrating birds on the Stikine River Delta.
Perhaps you’ll hear the spouting of a humpback
whale as it slowly passes by or see the
friendly and curious eyes of a seal as he
pops his little domed head out of the water
investigating his new neighbors.
Activities...
Choose from guided explorations to
independent paddling right from your floating
lodge. Your choice of Kayak or Canoe can be arranged
for exploring on your own or with your naturalist
guide. From your marine hideaway local tour operators
can pick you up directly from the lodge to whisk
you away to that Stikine River Adventure or Flightseeing
excursion.
Berg
Bay is a short paddle to the mainland
to access the Forest Service maintained trail
there. The boardwalk trail leads through lush
rainforest and bonsai garden muskegs leading to
the open grassflats of wildflowers and waterfowl
along Arron's creek and on into the surrounding
mountains.
Mill
Creek
is an area steeped in history as well as beauty.
It was one of the original village sites of the
Stikine Tlinget natives. The creek cascades to
saltwater in a spectacular series of waterfalls.
The trail leads from the beach through lush forest
past remnants of the old sawmill ending at the
tranquil beauty of Virginia Lake. If you're feeling
fit, you can choose to portage along the trail
to the lake for a little lake paddling or fishing.
The
Stikine River trip is truly
one of the greatest Alaskan Experiences to be
had anywhere in the state. Your friendly, knowledgeable,
and highly experienced captain will take you aboard
his comfortable jet boat across the braided channels
of the Stikine River delta, up river into Shakes
Lake to experience incredible iceberg sculptures,
waterfalls, and an up close glacier experience.
A perfect way to round out your trip before returning
to town is with a stop at Chief Shakes hot springs
to lounge in the wooden hot tubs warmed by the
natural mineral spring coming directly from the
bedrock of the valley.
Anan
Creek...
During the salmon spawn at Anan Creek, paddle
over to visit the World Class wildlife viewing
observation deck operated by the US Forest Service.
Black and Brown bears fish the creek teeming
with pink salmon. This is what Alaskan memories
are made of !
Remote
Stays... This
is a unique way to enjoy the solitude of the wilderness
while enjoying all the creature comforts - the best
of both worlds! The vessel is securely anchored in protected
waters in scenic locations that take into consideration
the best on-shore experiences of the season as well.
In
early summer we choose a location close to hiking
trails with miles of protected shoreline and small
islands to explore by canoe or kayak. If bears are
your thing, come later in the season for a world class
wildlife viewing experience at Anan Wildlife Observatory.
We position our vessel so a short paddle along the
shore and hike through the rainforest takes you there,
for a truly incredible experience in wildlife viewing.
Traveling there on your own allows you to enjoy the
show for as long as you like, so bring lots of film!
We offer 3 and 5 day packages which include side trips
to the Stikine River or the Le Conte Glacier.
For
those who like to "do it all", we recommend
coming in by float plane after experiencing a spectacular
flightseeing trip over the Stikine Ice Fields, LeConte
Glacier, and Castle Mountain. This can be arranged for
you through our affiliation with Alaska Adventure Reservations.
Dockside
Rentals... For
those who like to stick a little closer to town, consider
a dockside rental. Enjoy the bustle of activity of
the wide variety of the boats in the harbor during
the day and quiet nights lulled to sleep by the gentle
motion of the water. Transportation to and from town
on a daily basis is included so you can enjoy the
shopping and attractions around town, or join us on
one of our walking tours.
The well maintained bike path connects our downtown
area to the harbor, so rent a bike if you like, and
enjoy a leisurely ride along our waterfront and enjoy
the view.
The
harbor is located directly across from the Rainbow
Falls trail where you can immerse yourself in the
beauty of the rainforest. Reward yourself after
a short, steep climb with lunch along side the 100'
waterfall and a terrific view of the surrounding
islands and waterways. Those interested in a longer
day-long hike can continue on up the Overlook Trail.
